It is as important to build relationships in life as it is in education. Going the extra mile for those we know and like is part of human nature. Learning a name, pronouncing it right, and matching the same to the right kid is a very critical matter for every nursery school teacher and is usually the first courtesy that is extended to students. Quicker you learn names at your teaching job in nursery school, more every kid will know that you care. Start by greeting every student at the door, ask their name, and mark it in your attendance sheet. Look back and forth between the written name and their face so that the relationship is cemented in your brain. That will help you get at least five names out of the way immediately. Get the students to make name tags and place them facing you so the names can be read easily.
